I have unlimited characters but the same thing happened to me. Just payed for the subscription even and i can't create one wthout going to tools. Additionally, I also have no create folder button.
Can confirm. I have Unlimited via subscription and the button has gone missing. Deleting toons didn't seem to do anything.
Only very recently happened too; I had finished theory-crafting a character about two hours ago and the button was there, now it isn't. Perhaps they're working on something for us! =D
EDIT: I tried on my PC and my Tablet, and also logging in through my phone. It does seem the button has evaded us!

Having the same issue. No Create Character button on Desktop, but it is there on Mobile. I can still reach the Character Builder through Tools section on Desktop, but it did make me double check my subscription.
If you were having this issue, would you please refresh your browser and try again? The devs are working on this issue and we are hoping it has been fixed! Please let us know either way!

Well... They are on holiday break until January 6th. So even if they were, they shouldn't be right now.
Yeah, the create character button is missing for me too... as is the "View Cart" button in the store. :/
Edit: Just when I load the website on my desktop. They're still there when I use my phone.

Unlimited character limit. Create button is gone. Pretty sure it was here yesterday.
Edit: You are able to copy characters so that's a workaround you can use.

D&D Beyond FoundersAre you using a browser extension that changes the D&D beyond website (Beyond Help etc)?
If so, please try disabling any such extensions.
If you have any functionality to do with creating folders - that is a browser extension, not D&D Beyond.
