So there is a bug where if you take 1 lvl in ranger and 2 lvl in rouge then you take 2 more lvl in ranger you will get extra points in proficiency.
Hello Last_Gemini, your proficiency bonus is attached to your character level, not class level. A 5th level character will have a +3 proficiency, no matter what mixture of classes they are.
