Hello all, I'm a long time DM. Our regular group is finally all vaccinated and we are about to get back to the table for a fresh new campaign. I've always been a pen and paper DM, but I really want to try embracing D&D Beyond's Digital toolset for the first time this campain. I went ahead and got a subscription.
Questions.
Is there a way to group encounters within a campaign? Our kickoff adventure will run the characters through The Sunless Citadel. So idealy I'd have this as a sub-group of encounters inside the overall campaign. I wasn't sure if that was possible.
Also is there a way to just tag a group of monsters that could possibly be encounters to basically make a short list for quickly adding and removing from encounters as situations change rather than a search//filter of the whole list? I would be the digital equivalent of having a stack of monster cards set aside to quickly use. My current work around for that is to just make Homebrew copies of everything in the dungeon, then filter the list in the encounter creator to just Homebrew. It seems to work, but will need delete and new ones for the next adventure.
I'm excited to embrace the digital DMing at the table, I'm sure I'll get the kinks worked out as I become more familiar with the system.
No, there is no way to group encounters, you can only choose to filter by a given campaign.
As for tagging groups of monsters, there is not a way, but if you filter based on things like environment, type, and CR you can shrink the list quickly.
