Maybe this isn't a bug, but simply an unimplemented feature.
I have a half-dozen or so custom magic containers (private homebrew). They are all Wondrous Items that have the Container tag.
With the latest container sheet update, I see things like Alms Box, Sack, Backpack, Bag of Holding; but all of the custom containers I created as Homebrew items do not show up as containers that you can put items into. They are only showing up under Equipment as before.
Did I do something wrong and/or am I missing something on the items?
Custom items/containers is not currently supported.

Hopefully we will get this in an upcoming update, along with a WEIGHT_REDUCING tag so that those containers can properly zero out the weight of things held within.
So, this feature isn't data driven by Tag, even for "stock" items. :-(
*** PROOF ***
Alms Box, like Backpack, Bag of Holding, etc. shows up as a usable Container now.
HOWEVER, unlike those other items, Alms Box does *not* have the CONTAINER tag!!!
This is proof that the CONTAINER tag does not drive this feature, even for stock items.
Which suggests there is a separate hardcoded list (or code) that specifies container items, or, a separate "hidden" tag or flag we can't see or affect.
I have a very simple question: Why not just use the Tags? Clearly it isn't given the above facts.
If it was, Homebrew items tagged as CONTAINERS would work. Or, at a very minimum, *could* work.
Why have Tags at all if they're not going to be honored in the implementation of features?
Why have a CONTAINER tag if it doesn't define *WHAT* is and isn't a CONTAINER?
What am I missing? 'Cause this all seems very logical to me.
This is just a phase 1, they are working on improving the feature.
A tag is not set up as a handling frame, it's just there for some organisation. They are creating something that works differently. Just because it seems logical from your perspective doesn't mean it is logical from the dev's perspective - and they are the ones working with the code and the previously set up architecture. It isn't as simple as you think.
Improvements are on the way. It's already much better than what we had before. Let's just be thankful for what we do have and give them time to improve further as they've promised.

OP I agree. This would be a great feature. I've made a number of interesting container items for my players but sadly they don't work like regular containers.
