I'm playing a tiefling artificer and I've just chosen the Battle Smith subclass. Also, my character is more of a long-distance fighter with a crossbow. I'm looking towards level 4 and what decision I should make then. My INT is 19 and both my dex (15) and my con (17) are odd numbers. I could just do an ASI (with either con (my first choice) or dex as the secondary stat) or I could do a Half-Feat like Observant or Fey-Touched (for examples). Of course, I could always wait on the INT increase and go Sharpshooter.
Maxing your INT is key for all Artificers, but especially for Battlesmiths and Armorers, because you use it for attacks and your spell DC. So either do a full ASI with INT and probably CON, or a half-feat with an INT increase.
Mechanically, Fey-Touched is probably the best option, followed closely by Shadow-Touched. If you want a particular spell from one or the other set, that should drive the choice. Effectively, you’re trading the feat spells instead of a 1 point CON increase. Observant and Keen Mind are interesting for RP, but probably not as mechanically strong.
But I would suggest letting RP, background, or story dictate your choice. Are any of the half feats appropriate for what your character has been through so far? Does one of the half feats match your personality? If so, that’s what you should choose.
Those stats are quite high for level 4. Depending on your group I'd either:
Observant (INT); or
+1 INT / +1 CON
After 14, DEX doesn't improve your AC so you can leave this at 15 for now. If you have some perceptive party members go (2), otherwise I'd go (1) to improve your passive perception and cap intelligence.
I would probably go with a half-feat. There's lots of great options for int half-feats, so just do whatever sounds fun. A lot of it is probably party/campaign-dependent. My personal advice is to not worry too much about mechanics and just focused on what would be the most fun for you and your character.

Hi!
Any suggestions? Thank you!
