True enough, although it is dm dependant if you get it. Also it increases your spell dc so you wouldn't even need the enhanced focus I think!
Actually if you're using the xanathar crafting rules because the base version is uncommon so would only take a couple hundred gold and two in game weeks to craft.
Alas we'd still need strength for heavy armour but we could always get 14 dex instead and stick with full artillerist. You'd have to fall back to cantrips if you don't get shipeleileue up in time.

Artificer gains medium armor proficiency at lvl 1. Variant Human can get a feat (Heavy armoured) at lvl 1.
A strength based Artificer sounds odd, but it does work. 15+1+1 Str, 8 Dex, 14 Con, 10 Wisdom, 15+1 Int, 8 Charisma.
At lvl 4 one more Feat to round up Str.
Magic weapon infusion and Booming Blade or Green Flame blade Cantrip.
At lvl 5 you add 2d8 Thunder or Fire Damage to the primary attack cause of lvl 5 cantrip and Artillerist Bonus.
Hits reliably for decent Damage. Heavy armor + Shield or Absorb Element makes a great Tank.
