I really want to play an Artificer character, but I don't know how to get it. Some people say that you can get it by buying a subclass. "Eberron: Forge of the Artificer" book, because it comes with a bunch of Artificer subclasses. Other people say that you need to get "Tasha's Cauldron of Everything" and then buy the subclasses that you want afterwards. I'm kinda tight on money and I want to spend as little as possible on this, but I am willing to spend as much as I need to. Eberron is $19.99 whereas Tasha's is $29.99. Is it possible to buy the class as a standalone for cheaper? Idk I'm just kinda lost.
There are two versions of the Artificer class (a 2014-style version and a 2024-style version) as there are for every other class. The 2014 version is included in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. The 2024 version is included in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer. You'd want to choose the one appropriate to the version of rules you'll be playing under. Tasha's Cauldron of Everyhing is more expensive because it's a considerably larger book with a lot of other character options in it, though they're all geared toward the 2014 rules, which are no longer the latest and greatest.
Each book includes all the official subclasses for the version of the class it has (four subclasses for the 2014 version, five for the 2024 version).
Unfortunately it's no longer possible to buy standalone classes or subclasses (or any individual character options) without buying the entire book. The D&D Beyond marketplace used to offer that option, but it was removed over a year ago due to it causing technical issues with the character builder.
