If my Armorer is in Guardian Armor and wielding both a shield and a weapon, can he still use Thunder Pulse?
The reason I ask is that Thunder Pulse "counts as a Simple Melee weapon." Depending on how one interprets that, the character would need a free hand to 'wield' the pulse.
It seems like the intent of the 5.5e version is that the special Armorer weapons are part of the armor itself and don't require a free hand to wield.
The Tasha's Cauldron of Everything version of the subclass explicitly said that the Guardian model's weapon only worked if your hand was empty. That language was deliberately removed from the Eberron: Forge of the Artificer version (along with both models' description of exactly where on the armor the weapons were mounted) which makes me think their intent was for that restriction to no longer apply.
