Consider this scenario: The Cannon in ballista mode is in a long-range battle against some archers. Could it "stand up," take a shot with the ballista mode, then fall prone again on its turn, so that the attacking archers have disadvantage?
The Eldritch Cannon isn't a creature and thus doesn't really interact with conditions that apply to creatures.

Agreed. The Eldritch Cannon does not have a stat block or movement rate as per a creature.
