Have a (as of now) 2nd lvl Half-Orc Barbarian w/ Str: 17 Dex: 15 Con: 16 Int: 6 Wis: 10 Cha 10, am planning on going Berserk. When i get to lvl 4 for first ASI, should i bump Str to 18 to get the plus 4 early and then the other point in Con? or should i put the two into Con first, then at 8th put a point into Str? (think our campaign is using the milestone xp, incase that changes anything)
Bump Str to 18 and Dex to 16. That'll increase the modifiers on both, giving you +1 to hit, +1 damage, +1 unarmored AC, and, of course, +1 to Str and Dex saves, Athletics, Acrobatics, Sleight of Hand, Stealth, initiative, and all other Str and Dex checks.
Gonna have to agree with Matthias. Two odd numbered scores is like a dream come true when an ASI opportunity comes up, and that'd line up all your bread and butter scores in a neat little row. Plus, with the damage reduction of your rages, having what, 4 extra hit points at level 4? Probably won't make or break the HP bank, so to speak.
If you are not so inclined on the full optimisation you could also look at the half-orc Racial feat (orcish Fury in XGtE) which gives a +1 to strength or con and some extra damge.
My first thought looking at those stats would be Str+1/Dex+1 at Level 4, then Con+2 at Level 8. And then probably something like Great Weapon Master at Level 12.
yeah, that's most likely what I'll be going for. And, depending on what (if any) magical items I have at like 15 or 16 might dip 2 levels into Fighter. But that wont be for awhile, so we shall see.
Im joining in on this thread as there are a few who are asking this question and it saves extra threads. I have been thinking about this for my Barbarian as well and have been trying to think whats best. First character details.
Character: Harold Tosscobble, Halfling, Ancestral Guardian
Stats: Str - 18, Dex - 18, Con - 16, Int - 12, Wis - 9, Cha - 12
First I rolled rather well on my stats so I have a AC of 17 without a Shield. Part of me loves the idea of a dual Warhammer wielding Halfing. But barbarian is awful for two weapon fighting. So at the moment i am thinking of putting the +2 in Con. It would give me extra health and AC. Which is handy as the party is very squishy other than me. So i am playing the tank role heavily.
What do people think?
