Personally, I like to houserule that Barbs can spend a HD on a short rest to restore 1 use of Rage. At least it motivates the use of that player resource. I mean you get 2 HD back on a long rest, most people I play with completely forget they have HD to spend and never use them anyways.
Wow we've been doing it All wrong. Although to be fair our games are usually more RP rather than combat based, so we very rarely use enough hit dice to actually break the rules
Yeah, "regain all hit dice on a long rest" seems to be a common house rule just because it fits with the rest of 5E's theme of everything resetting on a long rest.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
I don't have a problem with it the way it is, but I do think you should get them back on a short rest.

Wait... You only get two hit dice back on a long rest? My table always treated it as getting them all back.

I do, and at least half of the games I play in have at least 6 per long rest.
