So I was planning out a Barbarian build, when the Path of Wild Magic caught my eye. The variation in your rage effects seem pretty fun. One of them made me wonder about how it would be used though, specifically the one when you roll a 4.
"Magic infuses one weapon of your choice that you are holding. Until your rage ends, the weapon’s damage type changes to force, and it gains the light and thrown properties, with a normal range of 20 feet and a long range of 60 feet. If the weapon leaves your hand, the weapon reappears in your hand at the end of the current turn."
Would this have any use as a Half-Orc with a greataxe, other than giving my second attack the option of being thrown (since throwing the first one would negate the second)?
Only other possibility that came to mind was this: would this allow me to each turn attack with my Greataxe twice, draw a hand axe with my item interaction, then use my bonus action to throw the hand axe, essential two-weapon fighting with a light two-handed weapon and a thrown weapon?
If this second possibility doesn't work, I can't see how that surge would be useful at all when two handing a greataxe.

If you have Extra Attack and throw your greataxe you will only be able to attack once, unless you can move to pick it up back and attack again with it.

You can only Two-Weapon Fighting with a weapon you're holding in one hands so despite being having the light property, it won't be working with a weapon held in two hands..
Two-Weapon Fighting: When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you're holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon that you're holding in the other hand. You don't add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack, unless that modifier is negative. If either weapon has the thrown property, you can throw the weapon, instead of making a melee attack with it.
With a two-handed weapon, you make attacks with both hands, but the weapon can be held in one hand. So after the two attacks with a two-handed weapon that is light, you actually are still holding alight weapon in one hand, so shouldn't two weapon fighting be possible?
Clarification:
When I mentioned throwing the greataxe, what I meant was that I could attack normally for my first attack, then throw the axe at another target on the second attack.
No, not by my reading. While you may hold the weapon in one hand, you're not attacking with it when you do so.
...attack with a light melee weapon that you're holding in one hand...
By my reading, you must attack with the weapon while you're holding it in one hand in order to trigger TWF. You can't attack with a greataxe while holding it in one hand. I don't think that surge would be useful with a pure 2h weapon.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

Assuming you mean the greataxe, yes, you should be able to throw it on your second attack and it will come back to you. This is because the Wild Magic turns the greataxe into a light throwing weapon for a short time. It's still two-handed, so you can't use a second weapon on the same turn, but why even do that when you can just hurl your greataxe and it reappears in your hand at end of turn?
You can do two weapon fighting. You can't do two weapon fighting with a great axe.

I DM for a Wild Magic Barbarian and 100% allow them to do two weapon fighting when they roll this surge
