Hello everyone, I am loving my world tree barb, this is my first pen and paper game but have been playing and reading D&D stuff since I was a teen. I rolled REALLY good and therefore have tried to take more of a backseat with my damage. My party did not roll that good and I am just smashing things left and right while they are hardly doing any damage during fights. So I switched from the Maul to the sword and shield, I am the only damage sponge that we have anyways. I love mid maxing but that's usually because I play healers/bards type things. So the mid max doesn't feel so overpowered.
I am a lvl 5 Orc world tree barbarian:
STR 20/ DEX15/ CON17/ INT10/ WIS13/ CHA 11. Background Farmer for tough feat. For the feat I was able to get I picked Gift of the Chromatic Dragon. TBH I thought that the resistance lasted a minute not just one turn.
So in one more level I will have the World Tree "get over here" portal thing. Can someone help me with multiclassing. I was thinking of at least picking up 3 Fighter to get the subclass and they have the thing at Fighter 2 that lets you use a battle die to reroll a failed skill check out of battle. Or maybe a few levels of Cleric for heals/guidance. Rouge is another good option for backstab and whatnot. Also picking feats is a little tricky since a few of the better Barb/Fighter ones only let you increase STR but not past 20 and I didnt know that before putting my 18 + background +2 into Str.
Any help with what items I should be looking for, feats to get and mainly why I should or should not multiclass would be greatly appreciated. I know I want at least 1 more into barb for bringing them over but not too sure after that.
There are a couple of problems with multiclassing if you are using the PC day by day. If you make a 10th level character there is no pain.
You are 5th level, to get a feat you need to live through the drudgery and excitement of 3 more levels to reach 8th level barbarian. You also get the advantage on initiatives and the subclass bonus of doing opportunity attacks.
If you dip into fighter, yes you get some nice fighter aspects, but if you are a level 5/1 instead of getting a feat in 2 more levels, you have to wait for 3 levels. Assuming you don't split those levels. So you become a 5/4 character or a 8/1 character. You fall behind as you need 9 levels to meet what everyone achieved a level earlier. Now the mental anguish starts to hit as well. The single class PCs are starting to get more powerful as they reach into 10th and higher levels, but you are not advancing as fast as you are basically spending the resources a 10th level character spends to reach 11, but instead you are a more lower level.
Say you are 8/1 mix. Is the nice attributes/skills etc. a 10 level barbarian achieves better then applying the level to a low level multiclass level? It is really a personal choice. The big down side is playing week after week, and 2nd guessing yourself.
