I'm building a Beast Barbarian for Tyranny of Dragons and am looking for some suggestions to better optimize how I play him. He's a Dragonborn, but flavored as a human with a dragon's soul/magic through an unclear lineage that allows him to take on a draconic appearance when he rages. What can I do to give this barbarian more draconic flavor (whether through feats or items ideally, but open to favorable multi class suggestions) playing into what one might expect from a Red Dragon?
For example, I've been allowed to give him a neckless of fireball, giving him a massive fire attack like that of a boss. Plus he has Gloves of Cinder and Sizzle (from BG3 which DM said I could home-brew) giving him some fire damage to his attacks. This is the furthest I'd go with home-brew since it's technically from a different DND source.
Obviously I can't make him a real dragon without outside interference, so just looking to get him close on how he operates. Any suggestions are appreciated!
There’s a pair of dragonborn species feats in xanathar’s. Beyond that, I think you’re on the right track with flavoring things.
Dragonborn Specific Feats:
Dragon Fear - Lets you turn your breath weapon into a breath fear effect. Not a bad effect, but the DC on the fear is Charisma based, so not particularly optimal for a Barbarian
Dragon Hide - Gives you an unarmored AC of 13 + Dexterity and an Unarmed Strike that does 1d4 Slashing Damage. Again, neither effect is great for a Barbarian as your class's Unarmored Defense will likely be as good or better and few Barbarian builds use Unarmed Strikes all that often.
Both of these feats also give a +1 to Strength, Constitution, or Charisma
I’ve also been thinking of using the warrior of elements monk as an alternative. Less hp/damage resistance, but lots of elemental power, built in flight at higher levels, mobility and ranged attacks.
