If you going for melee you can switch to your halberd instead. Note two-handed requires when you attack with it, however you still able to hold a net (or spear) and halberd at same time just you can't attack with the halberd until you throw/store/drop the net (or spear).
I would use the halberd as main weapon and just take out the spear/net for ranged option or in net case restraining your target. In early levels the net can be pretty handy catching fleeing enemies, however it restriction and low dc/easy to destroy make it hard to use in higher levels.
Ok, I wasn't aware I could hold the Halberd while throwing the net. That increases the range and DPR quite a bit just swapping out spear.
level 4 I would pick up Great Weapon Master feat and going Path of The Zealot for a possible (1d10+15)+(1d4+15)+(1d6+2) 35 - 52 DPR while raging at the cost of -5 to hit or 0 bonus to hit so the net's advantage die is still very useful.
Without some assistance, you're always attacking with the net at disadvantage. Having a familiar help you, the feat Crossbow Expert, and the feat Sharpshooter can all assist in negating the disadvantage.
It's too bad they didn't make nets' range 10/15 so there would be a sweet spot to attack with nets....

how is it that the net has disadvantage? The range is 5 / (15) long range?
AL Barbarian Lvl1 V.Human Pole Arm Master Str16(+3) Dex14(+2) Con14(+2) Int8(-1) Wis10 Cha12(+1)
Equipment: Halberd, Spear, (traded 4x Javelin for)8x Net
Net + Spear dual wielding
Turn 1 off hand Throw net, rage, now wielding spear (versatile)
Turn 2 advantage against target restrained by net (1d8+5)+(1d4+5)=12-22 DPR
Anyone ever make this build, any tips on play?
Restrained doesn’t grant auto crit, sorry
I see, just advantage.

Being within 5ft grants disadvantage, and so does using long range.
