So I've made a fresh Barbarian as my first character and it's bounced up to level 10 for my friend's campaign. I chose Dual Wield as one of his feats and now we're having trouble doing an accurate damage calculation. My Barbarian is also a Zealot with the Radiant damage buff. Anyways, this is how we are doing my damage calculations:
Our areas of not being sure of damage calculations is when the proficiencies come into play, my Barbarian is proficient with simple/martial weapons and both my greataxe and warhammer fall under both of those, but our dm says neither my MH or my OH get the prof bonuses, is he right or wrong?
Strictly speaking, you cannot dual wield with a greataxe because it has the two-handed property. Assuming your DM waives that restriction, here is the potential damage you can do:
Main-hand: Attack twice, each hit dealing 1d12 + STR.
Off-hand: Attack once, a hit dealing 1d8 only.
The first hit on your turn: Add an extra 1d6 + 1/2 barbarian level.
You do not add proficiency to the damage your weapons deal. See Damage Rolls for more information.
There's your problem, prof shouldn't be added to damage rolls normally, however, when raging, you get a bonus to damage that increases as you level, at 10 it would be +3, so here

The off-hand does not get STR added to damage. The fighting style, "Two Weapon Fighting", allows adding STR to the off-hand, but barbarians do not get this fighting style.
You may only attack once with the off-hand.
If you want to add in rage damage:
Main-hand: Attack twice, each hit dealing 1d12 + STR + RAGE.
Off-hand: Attack once, a hit dealing 1d8 + RAGE only.
The first hit on your turn: Add an extra 1d6 + 1/2 barbarian level.

Barbarians actually do get TWF under the Dual-Weilding optional feat.
But other than that, thank you to everyone who helped finally make heads and trail of my first character.

The Dual Wielder feat (as written) does not give the Two-Weapon Fighting style. Nor does it allow adding STR to damage for your off-hand. Did your DM rule that the feat does add these benefits?
Without house rules, the easiest way to add STR to damage for your off-hand attack is to multiclass into fighter for one level.
There is the Fighting style that lets you use your modifier for the bonus action attack. And then there is the Feat that gives you +1 ac and lets you wield weapons that arent light.
For the record there is no such thing as main and off hand anymore. A duel wielder can attack with whichever weapon they choose during the attack action. In the case of extra attack they could attack with both weapons (with str/dex bonus). After the attack action they can then take a bonus action to attack with a weapon that is opposite to at least one of those attacks ( no str/dex bonus).
So to recap, with rules as written. You can't dual wield weapons that have the two-handed property, (two battle axes work with the chosen feat). A level 10 barbarian with this feat gets 3 attacks (two because of the attack action, one for the bonus action attack, note that the turn you enter rage, you don't get to use this attack). Of those, there is no concept of MH or OH, but two will get d8+str + rage? and one will be d8 + rage? + class features (d6 + 1/2 barb level ) for one of the attacks If you want to add str to bonus action attack, as was mentioned before, you need to multiclass into a class that gives you access to a fighting style and choose Two-Weapon fighting.
If you are in a homebrew setting your DM can change any of the above to whatever suits your situation, but that's how it would normally work.
There is a feat called fighting initiate in tashas cauldron of everything that lets you choose a fighting style from the fighting style list for the fighter.

Just for sake of completeness, HERE is the Basic Rules chapter relative to what Proficiency does/does not do.

I was working under the assumption a feat exists that lets you add STR to off-hand attacks(seems like something there would be a feat for)
Giant flaming rocks filled with tarrasques fall, everyone dies.
Unfortunately, there is no feat that mimics the Two-Weapon Fighting style. A one level fighter multiclass will work though!

yes. but that didn't exist in march when the rest of this thread took place.
