So I just created a Mountain Dwarf Battlerager for a campaign that's starting. I got some really good rolls for stats so Strength is 20 and Con is 18 right out the gate, which leaves me wondering where to go with things after that. At 4th level I'm planning Squat Nimbleness just because of how useful a feat it is, but once I'm past that I'm wondering what way to go. Medium Armor Mastery seems like a natural decision but is it really? And after that it seems like I'd want to pump my Dex and max my Con.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Starting at 15. So Squat Nimbleness pumps it to 16 which means I'll get the full benefits of MAM, but is that really that great compared to getting something like Alert or Resilient: Wisdom?
Pump up your CON by +2 for another point of AC (unarmored defence)(17 total AC without shield) and more health. Gotta be the dank tank for the team!
If you have Athletics (Strength) already, Squat Nimbleness isn't doing huge amounts for your character unless you go against a lot of anime-inspired tentacle monsters. ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)
I've been thinking this over for a Battlerager build and I've been thinking about taking Dwarven Fortitude along with Periapt of Wound Closure. So if you get hurt, you can use Dodge during combat to start spending HD like potions and using bonus actions to keep doing small amounts of damage with your spiked armor.
Other than that, that's all I can recommend from my point of view. Squat Nimbleness does have its uses but you won't get that +1 AC from your Dex going to 16, but at least your initiative/saving throw will at least go up by +1.
After talking about it with the GM, we ended up deciding to tweak the kit a little.
The character is now a practitioner of an exotic martial art style that, rather than requiring spiked armor, revolves around using rope darts and specially-made boots with retractable blades in combat. Her "rage" is a combat stance. Since she isn't wearing armor she'll instead just use Natural Defense and pump her Con up to max.
And she's got a high interest in fashion, so she's the team tank who's crushing and stabbing monsters while wearing a dress.

That is one way to do it. Final fantasy dancer gonna wreck some shit.

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
Or go with terrible AC and just rely on CON and STR. Max out the HP, use the extra Feats for Lucky (to resist Critical Hits) and just soak up the damage with Reckless Abandon. Make it so you get hit as much as possible, and play it like a badass.
So 345 HP, if you’re taking 20 dmg per round (13 after Reckless), that’ll last you at least 26 rounds. That’s at least 78 Retribution damage on top of all the damage you’re soaking.
Just play your stereotypical bloody raging Dwarf and have fun 🙂

What is your Dex score?
