My PC is Bash, an illiterate half orc Barbarian who was raised by wolves and very much lives a simple, hand to mouth existence. She can only speak fragmented common, and she can only count to 5. Her day to day goals are to find something to swing her battleaxe against, and ideally something that she can cook over a campfire and eat.
She is great fun to play, but I am struggling to think of any long term personal goals which fit a character who is so instinctive. Any thoughts?
Is there gladiatorial combat in your setting? A character who loves battle might get attracted to that, realizing there's always someone stronger to face.
Wouldn't a spear be a better tool to harvest food with? Battleaxes are traditionally known for not being used for hunting. :P
As for your character, is she just a murder hobo or are you interested in other aspects of the game as well? Because there is always room for the whole "being intrigued by a new way of life" trope you could go for. Have her be impressed and amazed by the people she meet who can actually speak and count properly. Maybe she want to be like them or at least learn from them? These "shoes" that people wear on their paws, I mean feet, they seem nice, where can she get a pair of those? Maybe she tastes spices for the very first time and wants to learn more about cooking? Basically she is introduced to the world with all of its opportunities and now she wants to explore and experience everything.
The most obvious path would be for her to find her parents. Or her more distant family if you went with the cliché of them having been killed by kobolds, or something.
Yeah, so since writing this post I realised that she would like to read and count properly, and spoken to our dwarf fighter about him teaching her, because she wants to be able to keep track of her gold and be able to buy stuff etc without relying on the rest of the party. She likes to be self sufficient. Cooking could also work as she does love food.
I don't think Bash would have any interest in proper clothing or fine jewellery or the like though, at the moment she is happy as is.

Watch Crits for Breakfast, an adults-only RP-Heavy Roll20 Livestream at twitch.tv/afterdisbooty
And now you too can play with the amazing art and assets we use in Roll20 for our campaign at Hazel's Emporium
Ooh that's an interesting idea. It's loosely based on the UK in Arthurian times so there would certainly be tournaments etc.
