I am playing a level 8 warlock, and now level 3 (we just leveled up) bard. I have no clue what to pick as my new bardic spell. I currently have: bane, disguise self, dissonant whispers, healing word, and sleep.
I am thinking kinetic jaunt would be good because I am squishy or knock for opening doors I shouldn't be able to. But I could also see something like shatter be a good spell to grab. There's just a lot, and this is my first character with the bard spell list.
First of all let me commend your already known spells so far. So much utility and support! Just a piece of my mind, I think that sleep will be very situational as the CR of your enemies will be increasing. I suggest you switch it with something else. Maybe another situational but powerful spell like heat metal (one of my favorites).
Now, it depends on your playstyle and bard college. Kinetic Jaunt sounds like a solid option. Shatter is not that powerful at level 11 damage-wise due to small radius and low damage. Knock is a fun spell to have if you or a rogue do not excel in lock picking, but again for a bard every spell counts.
I find detect magic being very useful. Being able to detect and identify magic without spending spell slots is a major thing. Especially in a high fantasy campaign where magic is used to conceal and protect.
Also invisibility can come in handy. From sneaking in and out of a places/situations to ambush an enemy or having fun in the local market place.
If your Spell Save DC is high enough, hold person can save you some time from a fight.
In the end it is you who know what spell suits your character, speak with your DM just so you don't end up with a dead spell. After all you can change a dead spell on the next level up.
Agree on Sleep losing weight as the CR (and thus HP) of enemies climbs. Heat Metal can be a big boon at the right time, so it's an option to consider for sure.
3rd level, I have found Shatter ok, but knowing this is a second class, you won't get a lot out of it right now, it's coming available a bit late. Hold Person is nice, more so if the party has a Rogue going after you. A hit auto-crits a Paralyzed creature, so a failed save with the Rogue up next doing Sneak Attack, Crit can be EEEEK! Invisibility is a great utility spell, too, again depending on your role in the party. Seeing Warlock makes me think you're looking for a support/damage blend, so utility spells might not net you as much return as combat and buff/debuff.

Support, buffs, debuffs are what I tend to stick to. I normally cast bane first thing and if that doesn't work, hex. And other than spamming eldritch blast, or vicious mockery/dissonant whispers, my role is support. I don't know if heat metal will used, based on the campaign setting, but it's something I'll consider. Now that I am looking at the list, I could also see some shenanigans with unseen servant.
As far as the party makeup, it's myself (eloquence and genie), a monk, 2 fighters , a bard/cleric, a circle of the moon druid, and a bladesinger wizard. So I think I'll definitely replace sleep.
Two bards in a party, now that's what I am talking about!! Nice, eloquence is fun for social interactions and synergies well with spells that require saving throws.

What would be a good spell to use?
Thanks for any help!
Ahoy!
Oh boy, so many cool choices out there.
