So I am starting another lvl 1 this weekend in AL and have yet to make a face character. It's kind of hit or miss for what shows up class wise so I was thinking of making a character that can do a little of everything. Start Bard for a level, go Hexblade for 2, then finish out the rest as Bard. Get Agonizing blast for EB, mask of many faces for RP in towns and getting info, Half Elf for 2 more skills, Urban Bounty Hunter for the thieves tools. Have medium armor and a shield for 17 base AC with just cheap chain and be able to cast shield so if you need to melee you can, not well but you can hop in if need be. Thoughts?
I already have a Wizard, EK, Druid, Cleric, Sorcerer, and Barbarian that I've played up a bit so I do know that a Bard will never be as good as they are at their respective roles.
To accomplish this you'll want to take 1 level in cleric (knowledge), 2 in warlock, and 1 in rogue. Don't start dipping until after you reach level 3 as a bard. You'll also want to pick up the skilled feat. In order to do this you'll need charisma, wisdom, and dexterity ability scores of 13 or more.
I took Bard at 1, then 2 in Warlock, and now another 2 in Bard as he is now level 5. Can't do another multiclass though, that would ruin my lvl 18 magic secrets and not be able to get wish (I know, wishful thinking). But it's been going great so far! The EB has been good to do damage and Hex kicks it up a notch which I only use during longer fights. I know I won't be able to take ALL the skills, but he has a ten now with expertise on two. Super fun so far!
If you just want to multiclass into Warlock I'd highly recommend holding off until you reach lvl 6 as a Bard and then dip 2 lvls into Warlock before switching back onto Bard.
It's AL so it's etched in stone now that I've played a tier 2 module. I can say that I am glad that I did multi at level 2 and 3 as I am actually able to help in combat. Having a smaller amount of people in the group at times, it's invaluable to have that extra damage to thrown around and the extra AC to keep from getting hit.

For races half-elf was the correct choice.
