Been formulating this idea for a Glamour Bard for a while that relies on a few well placed spells to effectively tank for a group.
The basic conceit is to take a 1 level dip in Warlock (Dao Genie) for the Sanctuary spell and use it after placing whichever concentration spell you are using. It should allow for good preventative non-defense defense (they need to roll a high wisdom save in order to target me and then... Mirror Image). If I see an aoe coming, then Shadar-kai Blessing of the Raven Queen provides resistance to everything. By level 15 I'd get Unbreakable Majesty. At late game big boss time, they would need to get a 19 wisdom saving throw and a 19 charisma saving throw just in order to target me.
For instance early he'd have Compelled Duel (Fey touched) and then bonus action Sanctuary. Then hand out inspiration, buffs and stuff like that while the team cleans up safely.
Later on use Spirit Guardians along with Faithful Hound for some added offense. If they break Sanctuary (not sure really), I can rely a bit on Mantle of Majesty along with a few well placed teleports.
Will this actually work? What do y'all think? Any kind of shenanigans you all think would be good here?
One of the holes in this build have to do with the rules of spellcasting. You can't cast a spell with your action and bonus action on the same turn, unless the action is a cantrip spell. So, forget about casting compelled duel or mirror image and then following up with sanctuary.
another thing, if you cast spirit guardians then later on you cast sanctuary, sanct's gonna fall off becuase you 'affected something with a spell you casted'. Also, this type of build won't be that effective against big bosses late game. Ancient Red Dragon? that's got a +15 WIS save. He just needs to roll a 4 to get through sanctuary. Heck, those dragons have a +23 to CHA saves, so it'll always make a save against unbreakable majesty.
Still, though, this isn't a bad build nor is the concept bad. It just needs some tweaking to get there. If you add one more level of dao warlock, now your bard's a decent blaster all game long with agonizing blast invocation. You could do things like cast a major concentration spell one turn (something that buffs your team mates to prevent from directly affecting the enemy, i.e. heroism, bless with fey touched, enlarge/reduce, polymorph, holy weapon with magical secrets, etc.), then in the following turns you could use the dodge action and cast sanctuary.

I knew there was something off with the taunt but couldn't see it, thx for the help on that. The fix would be to use Mirror Image prior to fight (hopefully), then use the taunt round 1 and sanctuary round 2.
For the spirit guardians, I'd read both that it would and wouldn't have trouble with Sanctuary if you fired the guardians first. Good to know.
As to the Ancient Red Dragon, who's not gonna have troubles with that. :)
I actually was thinking Shadar-Kai specifically for stuff like that to get resistance to damage which might save me a round or two. And Mirror Image.
I was playing around with a concept that would use up invocation to help with big game like the Dragon. Going with pact of chain for gift of ever living ones and maybe finding a periapt of wound closure. Would make any self healing doubled and max rolled. so a simple cure wounds would heal for 21 pts. Upcasting and that makes it better than a Heal spell. Dunno if it's enough, but maybe. Throw in a True Polymorph or a Power Word Heal and I might last a few rounds.
