I'm playing a lore bard in Tomb of Annihilation. He currently has 18 charisma, but is largely support so lots of his spells don't require saves or attack rolls. My thinking on metamagic adept is I'll be taking aura of vitality at 6 and death ward at 10 so using extended spell for those will be really nice, also subtle spell for counterspell. ToA only goes up to 12 so I'd take whichever I don't take at 8 for the end.
Charisma seems like the can't go wrong choice, but the metamagic options seem really fun.

I say go with whichever is the most fun and satisfying to use. 18 cha is already good and it seems like your heart wants meta magic
