A single level in Bard would give you one d6 for inspiration. Bardic Inspiration is a function of Bard level, not character level.
As for "hamboning" or "patting juba", talk to your DM. I would certainly allow you to be proficient in it for the purposes of performing. If the idea is to use it as a spell casting focus while in armour, I would require you to modify your equipment in some way - make your thigh armour resonate? - and have at least one hand free. Note also that musical instruments can be used as spell focuses only for the casting of your Bard spells. They cannot be used for your Paladin spells.
Sorry if this has been answered before but if a 6th level paladin took a level in Bard, what dice would their bardic inspirational be?
And can "hamboning" or "patting juba" be an instrument??
Thanks!

Thanks! That's what I was thinking but not too sure. I appreciate your answers here.
