One of my players is playing a lvl 1 rogue, lvl 6 college of whipsers bard. They just reached level 7 so she picked Chaos Bolt as one of her new spells.
Knowing Chaos Bolt is supposed to be a sorcerer-only spell, I checked her spell options, and Chaos Bolt was indeed a spell you could pick. I even had one of my other players re-create her character, and he saw the same thing.
Am I missing something? Is there another way why she's able to pick this spell, or is it a mistake in dnd beyond?
If you think it's a bug, repost this in the bug forum.
If you don't, then start sharing details. Chaos Bolt is specific to the sorcerer class, but it is also a 1st-level spell. If they have a feat, such as Magic Initiate, then they could. They shouldn't gain a feat at 6th-level, and since someone else in your game was able to duplicate the "error" then something else is going on. Maybe they home-brewed a Bard version of it. Maybe they went back and changed something from earlier. But a pure bard with no feats cannot learn that spell that early.
Yeah. No feats, no homebrew. Recreated the "error" by just picking the 1 level rogue and 6 levels of CoW Bard just to make sure it wasn't something she changed herself, like you suggested.
Wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something, like the spell getting a change since Tasha's maybe.
I'll move this to the bug forum then. Thx for the help!
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

Magical Secrets
Magical Secrets is a 10th level Bard ability. She's only a level 6 Bard, so that can't be it.

Are you sure she chose whispers bard rather than Lore bard?
Lore bards get an extra magical secret at 6th level.
At least they do in original 5e rules.
Don't know if they changed that for 5.5. and which default rules d&d beyond displays now.
If it's a bug, it seems it's using the lore bard feature. What is the 6th level whisper bard feature meant to be?
Thank you for your time and please have a very pleasant day.
I'm not able to reproduce this.

Tasha
Maybe it's something they can't restrict to simply Lore Bard (Magical Secrets) so they allow all bards the ability in the coding?
