My favorite background is the special Pact Seeker background… to the point that I’ve been trying to make as many class builds with it as possible. In addition, while Dungeon Dudes are doing their best spells for each class episodes, I have been redoing several of my class builds including of course the bard.
On a side note/question, while I did take most of their advice, I found it irresistible and in a way more balanced between my builds to take mostly wizard spells at high level since they are so rare. Part of why I want Lore Bard is the extra spells that maximize the potential of Prismatic Wall by taking Reverse Gravity. The other is Shield for obvious reasons.
I should also note that I like to make builds all the way to level 20 and take the highest possible spells at each level rather than mixing it up. That way if I want to play a certain class I can copy the character and downgrade its’ level without having to add a bunch of spells.
With the Pact Seeker background, this means it will be a Charisma/Constitution build, so a melee Bard is out (unless I dip Warlock, but I have a different plan). However, there is one preference of mine that may prove to be incompatible:
I tend to also start virtually all of my builds with a dip in fighter (except of course if they already get proficiency in Constitution saving throws like the Sorcerer, Artificer, or Barbarian.) Between the Con saves and the medium armor/shield it just seems too good not to do! Now, one would normally use the Valor or old Sword subclass due to the weapon masteries, but with my background choice it makes more sense to just go 14 in Dex and maximize Cha and then Con.
I should also note that I do not like taking too many feats besides ASI. As a friend once told me “Big numbers go Brrrrrr!” That’s just my playstyle. Obviously though, I am here for feedback, and it would be foolish of me not to take other people’s thoughts into consideration.
So to review, my current build is a fighter 1/ Lore Bard 19 (again, I like to plan ahead). It will start out with a shortsword, scale mail and a shield, but replace the shortsword for a staff spell focus upon level 2 (Bard level 1). It will also pit the shield away until level 5 (Bard level 4) when I take Warcaster (I don’t have arcana unleashed yet, otherwise I’d ditch the shield for the component-less feat.) After that, I maximize Cha and then focus of Con. Oh, and I’m going with the Defense fighting style.
So, what do you all think? Is it reasonable to have a Pact Seeker Bard (let alone a Fighter/Bard), or is Dex to integral to a Bard’s identity?

My bad. I guess I should have used a search engine and/or checked the other posts more throughly. I didn’t see any with this topic, although I suppose similar ones exist like merchant backgrounds.
Anyway, I apologize.
Oh, and I never use Reddit before with my questions, but I‘ve searched them before for similar questions others have posted.
Gotta say, I’m not crazy about Forcecage due to its’ new monetary requirement. Although honestly, I’ve never played that high a level of a campaign to spend money on that kind of stuff.
I agree with the puzzle comment. Maybe we’re perfectionists to some looking for the “right” answer when there are bot suppose to be, but I feel like I get you.
So please don’t send the leopards after me. I can only Dominate Monster one of them, and my animal handling is low.
Edit: Again, this message was in response to a user’s message who just vanished. I’m not in any way trying to bump or flood my own post with comments. I’m just not under the impression there is a way to delete my messages.
It’s okay. I was trying to “play along” as it were, but perhaps it wasn’t communicated well since it was just text. Plus, I’ve been known to have a rather dry sense of humor in real life anyway. I am sorry to hear about your experience on Reddit though. Such a shame some people have to be like that.
I will look further into your build as you post more information and see what I can borrow while remaining true to what I want the character to feel like.
