Short version of backstory - he's a really talented actor that doesn't use spells or magic in his act, except as countermeasures against rival bards who try to use magic on me during my performances to trip me up. (That said, I haven't had to do a performance in game yet.)
So, my bard just got to level 4. Already knows Message and Vicious Mockery, but needs to add another cantrip. Light is currently at the top of my list for it's duration and usefulness, but I've read some things about a few others that have me conflicted.
So, the the choice was between Light and one of the following cantrips to pick for my next cantrip, what would you recommend and why/what out-of-the-box ways have you seen them used:
-Mage Hand -Minor Illusion -Prestidigitation
Thanks in advance for any and all advice and insight!!!
Mage hand is always a fun favourite - deploy caltrops at a distance, pour oil, carry a torch ahead of the party / a lantern. / perform the stranger
Minor illusion - can be good but the stationary part is one problem as is the 5' cube - if its a 5' cube then the common 'I make a wall to hide behind' will not hide your damn head, so duck. best use is hide caltrops / mantrap on the ground. (you may be heading out of the levels where they seem worth the time though.
Prestidigitation - have embroidered clothes in two non linear patterns and colours the same. Use Presti to change one colour, then on the second to give you appropriate terrain camouflage. Use Presti on raw meat when your starving to change taste and temperature so you can swallow it down and not die. Change your skin or hair colour to avoid ex conquests or guards or people you owe money. Use presti on uncomfortable bedding to make it seem soft. Clean your clothes. Clean your teeth. Its a tiny wish spell.
Hope that helps, enjoy the music!
