Hi! I am currently playing a Bard for the first time. I thought there was only 2 Bard Colleges, however, I just found out that there are more. I am currently thinking about the College of Swords instead of the College of Lore. I was wondering what everyone thinks of the College of Swords with an entertainer background.
do remember; you are not necessarily tough so don't get yourself stuck in a slug fest. use mobility guile and finesse to avoid trading blows. and never forget.... an entertainer wins the crowd as well so treat your DM to a dazzling spectacle and I think you will both reap the rewards.
mechanically, don't lose sight of what style you are going for str or Dex, dueling or two weapon fighting. bards are already a bit MAD so you can end up using feats in inefficient ways [feat]dual wielder[/feat] comes to mind.
If you have an encyclopedic knowledge of spells for 5e, or have scoured and cherry picked the ones you would pick at each level you receive them with the fervour of a zealot then lore is for you. Both swords and valour will allow you to engage in melee, but if your going to do that then you should make sure your stats /ac / weapon th+damage modifiers wont hobble you.
Whatever you decide to play, enjoy it! A little tip though, if you want to go lore bar but fight in melee (a little) taking a level in warlock (hexblade) will sort you out with armour and shield proficiency and let you use you Charisma modifier to hit / damage with one handed melee weapons. (it makes you less multi-high stat dependant) Have fun.
