So, our 2.5 almost 3 year running campaign is about to end in about 10 or so sessions. I play the Bard. We started at level 1, and are finishing around level 20. I am playing about the only character who has managed to live through this whole campaign without dying or disappearing for a period of time. We are playing in a Greyhawk/Warhammer combo world.
To commemorate the ending of our campaign (if I live to see the end. There are hints that I may have to sacrifice myself to save my world...) I would like to “play a song” to commemorate the success of saving our world from both Iuz and Sothragoth, as well as to honor the memories of our fallen comrades.
Unfortunately, while I love to play my bard, I am NO GOOD at writing songs or paradies. Would any of you be willing to recommend songs or artists that I might check out to play at the end of our last gaming session?? She is viol player, so having that as the main instrument would be a plus, but that is not her only instrument.
When you mentioned that yours is the only starting character to survive the entire campaign, the first thing that came to mind was Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here", which is a nice melancholy, yet subtly uplifting song. So I did a quick youtube search for "Wish You Were Here Violin Cover" and this was the first result I got:
If you want something instrumental, you could look at Yo-Yo Ma's rendition of the main theme for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It's called "The Eternal Vow," and quite a lovely piece of music. It's a cello rather than a viola, of course, but... it's a Yo-Yo Ma solo, so, I mean, it doesn't get much better than that.
There are lyrics to the song but they're kind of meh because the English verses at least were written by the screenwriter and they are very clumsy. Also the cello does not play through most of the version with the lyrics. I'd go for the instrumental version myself.
I believe this are the recordings I've in my playlist. Since it's classical, there are a lot of recordings, and the instrumentation can vary. You could try to google the names and "violin" to see if you find a version you like even better. This version of the swan is actually cello, but I don't think that will be noticed.

Watch Crits for Breakfast, an adults-only RP-Heavy Roll20 Livestream at twitch.tv/afterdisbooty
And now you too can play with the amazing art and assets we use in Roll20 for our campaign at Hazel's Emporium
I would consider Queen's recording, "Who Wants to Live Forever", which was exceptional as a theme in Highlander.
