It’s ok (ish) we wernt gonna do it anyway. The entire reason these characters joined the adventuring party was to help the adventures. Lawful good for the win!

Referring to the title, a bard's purpose is not to be a flirtatious, oversexed piece of crap character. That's not the point of the bard, it's just a stereotype. I discourage playing a bard this way. Also, why do people play bards this way? I've never understood it. I understand they have high Charisma, but that doesn't make them flirtatious, just good at social interaction. You could easily play a sorcerer or warlock the same way.

To be fair, it is a trope and tropes are powerful for a reason because the evoke Archetypes, which are basically subconscious shortcuts in our understanding of meaning. I don't look down on people playing to a trope. Just as long as there are people who also play against tropes.

It's really strange that people are fine with playing bards this way, but once a Love domain cleric is released in a UA, everyone loses their minds.
Just because tropes exist doesn't mean that you have to follow them, but when a new player starts making a bard and they ask their DM/the internet what they're about they get the explanation that they try to sleep with everything and flirt with anyone in sight. Tropes enforce this way of playing in an indirect manner. Sure, not many people encourage this type of playing, but the fact that people assume this is how bards acts can cause the stigma of all bards being sluts.
(Just because you sing and like music doesn't make you want to sleep with everything. I'm a musician myself and know other musicians, and none of them are like this.)
Sure, I know you're not encouraging this type of playing, and you're free to play your character any way you want, we just don't need any more bards like this. It's a trope that D&D can do without.

To the comment closest to my last one, it was a joke. I was also just watching a crap guide to bards again and thought the thing about how if you don’t follow the stupid auto trope Matt Mercer will hit you with a pool noodle was hilarious. I did not intend to start arguments or anything, just a fun little jest.

There's a difference between being horny and flirtatious and saying that love = mind control?
Glamour bards do the same thing. Also, it wasn't saying that love equals mind control, but that you can manipulate love. Any god of love ever in any pantheon has had the ability to make people fall in love with others.

Glamours are outright manipulations. They don't make uncomfortable comparisons between love and "I force you to admire me and attack your allies." It's not just about the mechanical effects, it's about the kind of statement they are making and the kind of world they are portraying. To be honest, I found the Love Domain slightly uncomfortable, but I wasn't up in arms about it. I'm glad of the change, though.
What's it to you, though? Were you really invested in the Love Domain, or something?

No, not at all. I mean, I am a fan of mythology, and it would be cool to have a domain for love, but Unity just seems like a cheesy way of describing it. I understand why they did it, it's just meh.
I was just comparing how Love clerics were immediately bashed, and bards are commonly the same in behavior to what people were saying Love domain clerics were themed to do.

I don't really see that the two are that similar. Being super flirtatious is not the same thing as violating consent by magic. Sure there are probably bards that will violate consent using magic, but the ones who are not creepy will just use their Charisma scores. Those that do violate consent (especially sexual consent) using magic are clearly acting in an evil manner and no one would argue otherwise and, unlike the Love Domain Cleric, they have no excuse of godly decree.

I am confused by everything that is transpiring but I am watching it intensely. I have no view on this ^^ topic cos I never play stereotypical bard and have never heard of love/unity domain clerics, but the idea of it sounds mildly interesting

Also, point of fact: They never released a Love Domain in UA, that was a leaked draft. When they actually released it, it was called the Unity Domain.
