I have a player who multiclassed from a barbarian to a bard in the middle of a dungeon (we are using the XP method). Does he suddenly have full access to his spells, or does he need to learn them first?
PS. I have never played out a campaign, but somehow ended up as my groups DM. I am in over my head and would love the community's help.
Some DM's require you to spend downtime to gain a level because honestly it's not suddenly gaining magic that's the root unbelievable thing, it's gaining a level.

He gets full access. Bards know spells.

Even if he was a non magic class before? Suddenly in the middle of a dungeon he all of his first level spells? Seems odd to me.
Thanks for the reply!
Technically yes. Bards know their spells. Each level they choose known spells, and can swap them out when they gain a level.
