I had a bard do a Leroy Jenkins in the middle of Elturel against a massive wave of undead wandering the streets while the party was fighting some random barbed demons in a secluded alley.
I was supposed to just lightly harry the group from offsides with a light flow of skeletons and zombies(always 2 of each on screen at all times) just to keep the players busy for flavor text.
Our cleric and our paladin are forming a basic line of separation between the 2 barbed demons and the bard decided to cast faerie fire to get as many undead as possible.
I had planned to increase the swarm slowly to guide them to the Graveyard for the big quest.
The Bard launches his faerie fire off the map to draw as many undead to the fight as possible to the paladin and the cleric. rolled really poorly to resist and randomly rolled how many of each he got and rolled max numbers of each on the dice(No, I didn't roll a d20). 12 skeletons and 12 zombies rush the party and the party suddenly runs tot eh demon side of the fight. Our cleric blows 2 shield slots for the circular firewall option and the idiotic undead flow towards their doom. Our paladin was enraged that the fire wall and all of it's mighty heat did not turn back the barbed villains. Our rogue made an insight save to determine if the undead horde (Will the DM go easier on us?) would be easier to escape from if we kicked the bard out of the circle. The shield implies to the cleric that demonic protections are stronger in this world.
They finish the battle at some point my Bardplayer quit during an unrelated tantrum. The entire party scooby-doo runs their way down the streets of Elturel.
they finally reach their planned place for a rest, a fortress for Hellriders, and slip quietly into the darkened front room. lulu casts some light and they are in a room that is filled to the brim with barely breathing room full of undead. The cleric casts Turn/Destroy undead on the pressed bodies and I do one roll for each type(Skel/Zomb) and can't find a quality save to keep my unlife. She did roughly 500 points of damage, and cleared the room.
Cue Long Rest!
