So something I like to do from time to time is roll for a random race and roll again for a random class and then make a build that is both interesting and thematic. Multiclassing is allowed, but it's preferred to stay primarily with the original class, and definitely have it be the starting class.
The race I got this last time was firbolg and the class was bard. Immediately, the first thing that came to my mind was the Ogier (like Loial) from Wheel of Time. For those of you who haven't read it, they're a group of gentle giant folk who prefer quiet forests and shy from men. Their special art and talent is singing to the trees which causes them to grow in wonderful formations and strong and taller than normally natural. So I'm thinking, well THAT'S what this build should be, a tree-singer. (I guess it's got some Tom Bombadil vibes too).
So what I'm looking for is help to make this build as optimal as possible, BUT WITHIN THE THEME. So I'm not gonna go 1 level of bard, 1 level of hexblade, and 18 of Ancients paladin or something like that. But I'm also not trying to be MAD and do bard, druid, nature cleric or something like that.
I'm thinking about capitalizing on the fact that the bard is a very versatile class, and having the build focus on being support/utility, but can still hold its own in combat too. So some of the ideas I've had have been dipping into Archfey warlock (to keep the theme) 3 levels to get the tome, take shillelagh as one of the cantrips (to be able to fight using cha). But the biggest reason is for the book of ancient shadows to get all the rituals that druids get so I don't have to use the limited number of spells I can learn for them (and hey, find familiar always helps).
For the bard college I feel like there's several routes I could take. If I took college of eloquence which is always a solid class, I could really make use of the reliable talent at level 3 for cha checks which combos well with firbolg's ability to speak to plants and animals. Lore bard is always good because of the extra magical secrets (which I would consider taking spells like healing spirit - which I think may have gotten nerfed, but I can't remember - and revivify). The extra skills are always nice as well. Valor bard is also a valid choice as it provides that extra combat versatility, along with medium armor and shields. Creation Bard fits the build fairly well thematically as long as I'm taking a natural feel to it, I sing to the nature to take the form of what I'm describing.

But anyways, let me know what you all think.
I like the character concept
