Human Sorcerer - Tovam (a youngster of about ten years old)
Half-Elf Lore Bard - Cadenza
Are journeying through evil lands torn apart by war over rival factions associated with the Red Moon Goddess, the White Moon Goddess, and some other religions, are seeking to learn what is going on here and what the struggle is all about in order to help their patrons west of the mountain range decide if and how they might intervene in this struggle. They were crossing a swamp and being periodically harassed by trolls, great trolls and troll minions, when the came to a black foul lake. The trolls led them to the lake shore but were no match for the party and soon scattered, when a black dragon came bursting forth from the murky water. The party fought this dragon, overcoming fear and acid breath, and killed it. The Dwarven Paladin insisted that they stay and harvest what they might be able to carry off from the body, but this took some time so Cadenza recommended that they press on before the Trolls return in great number.
The party travels for another day and finds a town that the trolls have sacked. Two warriors are there, one near death and the other wounded. They offer to help the two with spells and potions but one of them can't accept magic healing because he is under a pact with his deity patron. The second fellow, his keeper, does accept what help we are able to provide. The party remains a second day and slays a great host of trolls seeking to get revenge on the two warriors there. Then Cadenza convinces them to return to the dragon lake to see if they can find the dragon horde before someone else gets it first.
The party finds the lake in the swamp but has quite trial finding the lair entrance, deep under water. Once they gain entry they encounter the dragon's mate and have to fight a second time to win the horde, but having come this far they are not going to be denied. The Dwarven Paladin delivers the killing blow to the second dragon immediately after the bard runs in a delivers a sharp poke with his rapier. Cadenza has been quite successful in delivering the killing blow to a number of monsters so far in this campaign. He doesn't run to be on the front line, but he finds himself often required to extricate himself from situations without aid.
Upon felling this second foul beast, Cadenza announces that this fight is truly worth a ballad, and unexpectedly I have taken on the challenge on delivering the goods for real.

Imagine the tune of Greensleeves ...
In Lands far East of mountain peaks above Oirmnein, dwarven village
Black Dragons lived in land that reeks 'neath waters dark and wretched
Heroes from the West campaigned through forest, hill and mountain range
Quest for to knowledge gain in eastern lands quite foreign.
Then one ill day they found their way cross bog and moor vast reaching
The dark lake shore was never more but evil deeds inviting
Dwarf, Elf and Human folk with Half-elf leader did provoke
Black dragon mean with trolls keen to fight the heroes travelling
The trolls did flee before swords did gleam from sun and magic foreboding
Then from the depths of this foul dark pond sprang forth the darkest monster
Up sprang this darkest foe with sca-led armor head to toe
Claws, fangs, tail and acid breath to vanquish these brave heroes
So forth did go the dragon's foes with swords unsheathed for battle
The dragon fear was ever near to frighten them off like cattle
Steel might their hearts in fight like earlier monsters facing
Heroes deeds won the day against the dark lizard grinning
The Dwarves did charge the reptile keen to the maw of the great monster
The human knight soon joined the fight to death was the only answer
Elf archer played her bow a requiem made for her dragon foe
Roguish blades soon found their way between great scales black and gleaming
The dragons tail did slash their mail while acid sprayed wide o're them
and answered magic energy the lightning flew quite freely
Bard's mischief beguiled the beast the dragon flailed all around them
Dwarves hammer silenced the cheat-er of many good people's journeying
The party saw they should withdraw before trolls came in great number
A village near they found quite dear to rest from the har-rowing encounter
Soon back in force they came to search for fortune and their fame
Horde treasure for to seek beneath cold waters foul and deep
The cleric's magic cast away the dark depths that had barred them
An entrance there appeared quite fair among the deepest reaches
Into the cave they went the heroes' fates together bent
Ill tidings 'fore them lay the mate of their enemy waited
<a work in progress>
