I've been looking at Critical Role's Tal'dorei Campaign Setting's Blood Domain subclass for cleric, and I'd really love to work out a character concept for a Drow Blood Cleric who fights using twin shortswords as how they mostly deal damage. I was looking at other options and choices for blending Cleric Spells + Fighting, and was looking into multiclassing to optimize the blood magic and melee fighting equally as a damage-dealing caster, kind of like a divine Magus of sorts. I wasn't sure which class would be best to optimize into for a spinning whirlwind of blades, blood and fury though.
I was looking at Rogue, with a few levels in the Phantom subclass for extra necrotic damage, and Fighter, with no discernible thoughts on subclass. Any thoughts would be welcome.
Neither Rogue nor Fighter levels are going to improve your spellcasting, unless you go Arcane Trickster or Eldritch Knight. Since you'll be required to invest in Wis (and probably should want to for your spellcasting and channel divinity options anyway), maybe consider Ranger levels if you really do want to multiclass. Your spell slot progression will still be slowed, but less so than with the aforementioned options and the Ranger class has a couple of spells that'll help with the slicing and dicing. The Two-handed Fighting Style will be available, and if you're willing to take it to level 5 in Ranger you'll get Extra Attack.

I hadn’t looked at Ranger yet, but I‘ll give it a glance over for a good subclass or two. I’d always associated Ranger with more of a druid feel, although I could probably try and reflavor it to match the blood-manipulating combatant feel.
just spent a few minutes looking at Gloom Stalker and, surprisingly, that really fits what I’m kind of looking for. Whirlwind attacks, hunting when needed, and also helping wisdom a bit. Guess it’ll just be between choosing to focus on Cleric and Ranger to find the right balance.
