Hey there! So, I'm going to play a one-shot with my gaming group this weekend and I had this idea for a Cleric who prays to a so-called "God of Rebels," for whom tyranny and aiding those who are fighting their own good fights is not only their job but also their religious imperative. This god is the patron of all those who fight against oppression and tyrannical rule, bestowing his blessings to rebels and freedom fighters who pray to him for guidance -- so long as they are fighting for a just cause and are not just replacing one tyrant for another. He is a chaotic good deity, but that said he is also very "Give me liberty or give me death!" when it comes to his followers, and his clergy is fully aware that their callings may very well end in martyrdom.
What I would like to know is: what Domains best suit a god such as this?
The War Domain makes a lot of sense to me to include. The fight against oppression is almost always violent, so it makes sense that a clergy in service to such a deity will include many clerics who are martially inclined. Trickery may also work if the Cleric's calling involves subterfuge more than it does cracking some fool across the head with a mace. But what about other Domains? Are there other "rebel deities" from other settings that I can draw inspiration from?
The only other one I could think might be knowledge. Information wants to be free, and tyrants often discourage sharing ideas, and use propaganda and lies to control people. Knowledge would work to combat that.
Historicaly the sea has been associated with freedom in part because it cannot be controlled. This makes Tempest a very good choice for a freedom domain. The other I would recommend is Nature for similar reasons. Depending on the civilization you are rebelling against something very nature and uncontrolled like Tempest/Nature could make a ton of sense as a religion of revolution.
The tree of liberty needs to be watered by the blood of the oppressors, sometimes its a tree god.

Hmmm, that's an interesting idea and one that I'll certainly consider. Thanks!

Y'know, for some reason I can't help but think about Shakäste from Critical Role when you suggest the Tempest domain. IIRC he was a part of a group that promoted freedom and opposed tyranny, so you may be onto something with Tempest being a good choice for a freedom-themed domain. Something to think about!
Sounds to me like what you're looking for is a Domain of Punk!
But, since that doesn't officially exist, I would say Tempest. Now... hear me out.
A rebel who fights tyrannical forces is gonna get in a lot of fights. They're gonna be a melee cleric. Tempest gives you access to heavy armor and some great combat abilities. Also, a rebel is a revolutionary, and what is a revolution but a "storm of history"? Storm clouds on the horizon - the rising tide of the masses - the darkening skies overhead - the thunder of speeches - the lightning attacks - the unbridled rage of a people pushed beyond their limits - it all points to Tempest!
But, a rebel doesn't desire rebellion just for the sake of throwing stones. Well, okay, sure, some do. But a GOOD rebel is out there fighting to restore something! To restore Justice to the land. To restore Peace to the people. The rebel understands that you have to break a lot of eggs to make an omelet. But once it's made, you get to sit down to a nice tasty nutritious breakfast. The rebel isn't the one causing the strife. The tyrant brought the strife! The rebel is the one fighting to end the strife, so that the warm rays of Peace may once more shine in this land.
After all, what IS a storm? What does a storm DO?
Storms happen because there is an imbalance in the world. The storm is the world's method of correcting that imbalance. Wind is air moving from a high-pressure area to a low-pressure area, seeking to balance the two. Lightning happens because there is an electrical charge imbalance between the ground and the sky, and the lightning bolt is the conduit that connects them and balances them. Rain is more than just a means of balancing humidity differentials, it's also the single most essential life giving force in the world. Nothing lives without rain. Nothing grows without rain. Nothing can survive living a life out of balance. As a tempest cleric, you seek to bring balance to the world. You are the Conduit of History. The Tempest cleric seeks to restore balance to a broken world. A Tempest cleric seeks to restore peace to a broken land. A Tempest cleric seeks to restore DIGNITY to a broken people!
If you want to play a silly, happy, feel-good rebel - choose Trickery.
But if you want to call the dang storm down upon the tyrant - if you want to shake the tree of History until all the rotten apples fall out - if you want to make the oppressors quake in their boots as the ground quakes beneath them - you want Tempest!
To butcher a quote by Steven Moffat, "Demons run when a Tempest cleric goes to war."
I would also ignore the flavor, the idea of the domain is what’s important, not the preservation of Amonkhet’s setting.
Ooh, these are some pretty interesting domain choices. I'll have a word with my DM about them and if they allow them then I'll definitely put them on the pile of possible domains.

Possibly the Solidarity, Strength, or Zeal Domains (from Planeshift: Amonkhet). As already stated, Tempest is also very good.

I'm unfamiliar with both the setting and the domains you speak of. Can you give me more information please?
