If your cleric is more about understanding death than causing it, you might want to consider Grave DOmain
I thought about that, but Grave domain features don’t really fit to what I was looking for in a character. I wanted someone martial. Like a paladin, maybe? But that still didn’t quite fit. Idk, just doing the best I can lol
I made a build for an Eldritch Knight Fighter/ Death Cleric. Your int is irrelevant because all the spells you'd be taking are defensive from the eldritch knight side. It gets you booming blade as well as War magic and Eldritch Strike. You can start with strength and con save proficiencies if you take the first level in fighter. You'd basically be prioritizing Strength, Con and Wisdom like most normal clerics would.

Yeah I was envisioning my fallen aasimar with her skeletal wings flaired out through plate armor, greatsword resting on her shoulder while the other hand casts chill touch and has two skeletal hands flying towards the enemy. All the while she is surrounded by cackling skulls and a glowing Scythe. Maybe even a couple duplicates because I would totally take mirror image.
That’s really frickin’ cool. I like the Mirror Image especially. Too dark for what I’d been trying, but I was trying to go against the grain with what I made.
I really just wanted a cleric that felt like a melee bamf

I was looking to make the Witch-king of Angmar, so I went with a variant human death domain cleric, with the dual wielder feat so I could roll with a longsword and a flail. I had chill touch and toll the dead as my attack cantrips. He's a bit MAD, but he looked fun to play.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
so, i was curious about how the Dndbeyond web page doesn't have anything in its char. creation that allows for both alignment selection or the readiness to make "evil" chars. is this something that will be updated in the near future?
P.s. can the app (mobile and web) be altered to allow an even greater flexibility to customize chars.? in almost any way that can be thought of, like having a PC go from "evil-to-good" and vice versa. change gods at any point throughout the PC's story, ETC.
alignment can be set under description -> character details.

I put together a Death Domain Cleric that is a Warforged. He has the Haunted One background due to his backstory. Warforged receive a +2 to Con and a +1 to the score of your choice.
Back story: He was a human who betrayed his village in hopes they would be sparred from destruction by a band of marauders. Ultimately, this caused the village to be destroyed, including the deaths of his wife and child. After this, filled with guilt and rage over his actions, he made a deal with a mage to become a warforged. This was so he had the ability to seek out his revenge. After tracking down and destroying the people responsible for the death of his family, he went back to the mage to be released from his warforged body. This was so his soul could join his family. The mage was gone and could no longer found (because he was an agent of the Raven Queen). He then becomes obsessed with death in all of its forms. In his torment the Raven Queen took notice of his extreme feelings over the situation. She wanted to experience the memories of his betrayal, death of his family, the vengeance, and the inability to join his family. She then coerced him into creating those extreme emotions. This is with the promise that she will grant him the release he is searching for. Hence becoming a Cleric of the Raven Queen.
The thought behind this is that he not necessarily evil. He is just searching for the person worthy of taking his life so he can be with his family. Those he does not deem worthy he ensures they have a gruesome and extreme death, so the Raven Queen can capture the memories of him causing it and from the creature receiving it.

Do you dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?
I'm going back and forth on how to play my Death Cleric who worships the Raven Queen. Classic stoic/non emotion neutral whose goal is to serve his queen or overly cheerful and optimistic who happily (and with a creepy smile) kills and sends souls to his queen for collection. The oddly cheerful guy could be fun to play with for a bit, I just worry after 10+ lvls he'll start to get annoying. Though I suppose he could start out overly cheerful and slowly have all the death eat away at his conscience.....
Also the overly cheerful/optimistic character talks to himself (in his mind he's talking to the Raven Queen), and just gives a creepy grin to anyone who notices him doing it.

Not too dark. Just the child of Yasha and Caleb with Beauregard's personality :P
