Just tinkering around with a themey build I played once (but didn't get beyond 5th level).
Obviously, I call it the CommandBot - and it may be obvious that' its basically just a Warforged Cleric that uses Command (as well as Hold Person/Hold Monster, etc...) as their primary enemy engagement method. Sometimes, with word Salad and telling an enemy to Prostrate can lead to hilarious results. Twilight is the best option, I think. Because advantage on Initiative , massive Darkvision, some on-theme free goodness in the form of Sleep. And Twilight Sanctuary is also pretty dope.
I believe a Multiclass into Sorcerer is appropriate for Twinned Spell, with Clockwork Soul as the the most on-theme choice. Restore Balance is an effective way of getting around creature's saving throw Advantages or my own Disadvantages. Otherwise Storm Sorcerer's Tempestuous Magic is nice, but Clockwork is were I'd go. I think 4 levels to start with (for the ASI,) then keep pumping Cleric till 5th level spells, and then back to Sorcerer.
Basic progression would be pump WIS, get Resilient Con for making sure hold person/monster or concentration spells of choice stay up. Then probably pump Dex after that (yes, Dex, I make my Clerics Wis/Dex, with 8/14/13/10/15/12, with +2 dex, and +1 wis from racial ASI. And go to 14 Con with Resilient. Initiative, Stealth, Dex saving throws, etc. )
Magic item wise, the only things I can think of that improves the build are + DC items. So, +WIS Tome of Understanding, Ioun Stone of Mastery, Robe of the Archmagi, Amulet of the Devout, in regards to Attuned items. Obviously +x armor/shield, etc... for non-attuned items.
Anyway, still trying to find a group to play with.... so many ideas, so little dice rolling.
