At my D&D session tonight, my character and the party encountered a small demon while traveling from one city to another. This small demon encountered our carriage, which is a family carriage and the carriage driver from a party member, and demanded to have our carriage. The said party member said no as it was their family carriage and in turn, the small demon attempted to attack the party member. My character was able to knock it unconscious. The carriage driver demanded that they be executed immediately as it is a demon and no good can come from demons. Our party was a little confused on how this demon came to be and so we tied it up for the short while. With being a Life Cleric and my deity being Apollo, who is not merciful towards demons and undead, I was unsure of whether to execute it. Now it woke up and explained its whole situation of how it got there and is asking to be returned to its realm. I do have banishment, but I'm unsure of whether to send it back or execute it. What should I do?
Depending on what type of demon it is and what alignment is your cleric, i would take an informed decision while keeping in mind that Apollo urges his followers to be bold and relentless when facing evil, which the demon most likely is. In doubt, you can always let the party decide of its fate.
Death isn't final for demons. You'd simply be sending it back to it's home plane.
It's a demon. I'm killing it. For the glory of Apollo, of course.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
I wish I could let the party decide, but my DM said I'm basically the sole decision and the party will adjust. The being bold and relentless when facing evil definitely helps me a lot as this does tie into my character's journey. I appreciate the help!

Oh I've never thought about that. I'm a noob to D&D :( This does help me a lot and for my character. Thank you!
You're not telling us your alignment or the demons story.
Based on limited info: Apollo is a good aligned diety you follow as a cleric. Kill it or banish it. You're just sending it back to it's home plane.
