Hi, I am playing in a high level magic campaign once a month where we started off at level 5. The DM said we needed lots of heals and and stuff, so I decided to play a cleric with my partner. They are a life domain cleric while I am a tempest domain. We were able to start off with 2 feats, and 1 uncommon magic item. I have the amulet of the devout and then cast off breastplate for an ac bump. As for the feats, I took Drow high magic to get a few more spells in my toolkit and then war caster, because as a Cleric that concentration is a must. My stats are Str 15, Dex 17, Con 19, Int 14, Wis 17, Cha 14. We had to use the specific stat racial increases otherwise my stats would have looked different. My question is what would be the best plan, take a feat that would be beneficial, or do the ASI. We have only had 2 sessions so far and we have level up, I am just trying to get the most out of my build. Any suggestions would be wonderful!
Right now your Wisdom is at 17, so I would suggest a feat that will bump your Wisdom to 18 (raising your Wisdom modifier to +4) while giving you some extra benefits. Here are a couple suggestions:
Inspiring Leader - Gives your whole party temporary hitpoints after each Short/Long Rest; scales nicely; great to have on 1 party member in any party
Fey Touched - Gives you access to Misty Step and a first level Enchantment/Divination spell. My picks for the extra spell would be either Silvery Barbs or Dissonant Whispers. I'd go with Silvery Barbs if nobody in the party has it.
War Caster - Gives you advantage on your Constitution Saving Throws to maintain concentration and lets you replace Opportunity Attacks with spells. A solid pick for any caster.
Spellfire Adept - Lets you ignore resistance to Radiant damage, and lets you use your Hit Dice to add extra damage to your Radiant damage spells (like Sacred Flame or Spirit Guardians). This one is nice to use if you have lots of hit dice left and are reasonably sure it's your last fight before getting a rest.
I’d also consider a pure asi bumping wis and con. Though your next feat would be at level 8, by RAW, so you should have a bit. I’d take some time and see how things play then look at what would be useful. Why cast off breastplate? Twilight clerics get heavy armor, and with that 15 str you could wear full plate.
Cast off lets me get a pure AC bump without the stealth disadvantage from other heavy armors, since we were able to buy common magic items to start off with.
The access to silvery barbs would be absolutely insane and the teleport from misty step lets me get another bonus action teleport to use, I am heavily considering that with the stat increase that goes with it. I already have war caster since as a cleric there are so many concentration spells.
