"Spare the dying is useless. Carry healer's kits. "
Doesn’t casting any sort of heal at all do the same thing plus provide a little bit of health points?
Yes, any healing spell is going to bring an unconscious (making death saves) character back up. But what if you are out of spell slots? That's when people say that you should have Spare the Dying (because it is a cantrip and you can always cast it). My point (with others agreeing) is that why would you want to have Spare the Dying taking up a valuable cantrip spot when you could use that spot for a better cantrip? Because a Healer's Kit does the same thing as Spare the Dying. It does it without magic so ANYONE cleric or not, can use it. Same "casting time" (it takes one action) as a cantrip, and only 5 gp. What's not to like about Healer's Kit?

Yes, if you have a spell slot available. But, anyone and everyone can carry a healer's kit, which is even better. Or have a paladin lay on hands for 1 HP.

Sacred flame is the best! Even without a weapon you can dish out a solid amount of damage.
