I desperately want to do my Charlton Heston impression at DnD sessions. If I wanted to build a Moses ripoff, which school of cleric should I take? Or should I use a different caster class?
Depends on how you picture God. He serves God, so it depends on how you picture Him. God is loving? Life. God is Omnipotent? Arcana. God is vengeful? War. God created life? Nature. God sends you to heaven or hell when you die? Grave. It depends.
then, you need the right spells. Contagion is a good one, as God had Moses dip his hand behind his robe, and when he pulled it out it was sick. Wall of Water works too. That staff that turns into a snake? Needed. Get some books and pens and flavor them as stones and chisels, as what he wrote the 10 commandments on. Race? Race. Whatever you want, really.
Insect plague is good too. I dont know if Clerics get Wall of Water, but still.
Hmm.... I’m thinking nature. Tempest and war (and forge) want you to wear armor. Life is all about healing, but I think they get heavy armor proficiency and Cure Wounds is a touch spell. Death and Grave maybe, but it doesn’t really fit. Arcana possibly, but once again, they’re about magic, not godlike powers from God himself.

I was thinking the same the but I wanted to hear from more experienced people. With that being said, I think Aasimar would be the best race for this theme.
I think arcana is a good fit, moses helping to unravel the mystery of a unique religion at the time. knowledge works for me too. light and life get honourable mention for their obvious similarities to the religious values held by ... fans of moses...
Tayn of Darkwood. Lvl 10 human Life Cleric of Lathander. Retired.
Ikram Sahir ibn Malik al-Sayyid Ra'ad, Second Son of the House of Ra'ad, Defender of the Burning Sands. Lvl 9 Brass Dragonborn Sorcerer + Greater Fire Elemental Devil.
Viktor Gavriil. Lvl 20 White Dragonborn Grave Cleric, of Kurgan the God of Death.
So, Moses wasn't really about healing people. He was more about freeing slaves (ok, his people), propheting plagues, turning his staff into a giant snake so it can eat someone else's pet (even if those guys were jerks), choosing who's 1st born gets to live or die, moving water around, and arguing with God...
...Most of that is covered by the basic Cleric, filled in with the Nature Domain. Just try not to argue (throw a tantrum towards) with your DM too harshly, they just might restrict your movement.

DM: Are you sure?
Wizard: Yes. I cast the Wish spell and I wish that everybody loves me!
DM: You transform into an irresistible, magnificent feast. It was so great, all who participated in devouring you tell of the joy they felt with tears in their eyes and all who hear the tale only feel sorrow that they weren't there to eat.

Haven’t used this account in forever. Still a big fan of crawling claws.
Now I want to play a halfling Charlton Heston.
I like all of this, I was hoping for whatever domain let me get away with wearing robes and only carrying a staff.
