Yeah, just imagine a grid, you effectively cover 24 squares, the three squares to your right, left, front, back, and then each of the three squares in between each direction

Yes, and there's no sage advice to reference. "Squares" means you're referring to the variant grid rules, under which 5E uses Chebyshev distance unless you use the double-variant rules for diagonals, in which case the answer is still yes. X feet from you in all directions is a bubble whose size, by definition, depends on your size.
