So a player at my table is planning to create a Grave Cleric but he's curious about a odd interaction between two "feature" and I have no idea what the answer is.
Find Familiar allows a character to get a familiar through which they can channel touch spells.
Circle of Mortality (Grave Cleric Feature) gives a character the Spare the Dying cantrip, but for the cleric, it has a range of 30ft.
So his question is: Can a Grave Cleric with a familiar channel Spare the Dying through the familiar, as a touch spell (e.g. the familiar touches someone to use the effect)?
By RAW, it seems like the Circle of Mortality trait changes the cast range of Spare the Dying from "touch" to "30 feet", which would then prevent the familiar from delivering it. That doesn't seem intentional, though. I'd say the Familiar can deliver it via touch. Although I'm wondering what the scenario would be where the intended target would be more than 30 feet from the caster...
I would say you have to learn spare the dying a second time. The spare the dying granted by circle of mortality does not have a touch range, but can still be cast as either an action or bonus action. That is how I interpret the RAW anyway.
In my opinion, there is no reason to disallow find familiar's feature of touch spell delivery.
the spell itself is a touch spell, the only issue is that this domain improves the range; from the description " for you, it has a range of 30 feet"... e.g. it is not meant to be a restriction and the familiar is not "you" so why not allow it.
The familiar is said to able to "deliver" the spell as if they had cast it. Therefore, it may be appropriate to limit the familiar to the touch range.
