It states that in the player's handbook that Warhammers are Versatile, in most cases what would that mean for a Cleric? Could they wield it while donning the shield or would I need to improve on better armor. Right now my Cleric is wearing Scale, but was thinking of getting an Armor feat for my next level @12. What do you guys think? Would this be doable or not?

Belgium, Hadari, Ferrin, Wilros, Leth, Cade. Are who've I have played.
Christopher is my true name if you'd prefer to call me Chris that is fine too, or you can call me Shepard.
Versatile just means you can wield it with one hand or two hands. You get more damage by using two but can't use a shield. There's no difference based on your class. You can use it 1 handed and still use a shield you would just get the lower damage. What domain is your cleric? That would help determine what armor feats you might want, generally though the only one I'd recommend would be Heavy Armor Master and then only if you plan to be a front liner type and the campaign isn't expected to go into the higher levels.
He is a level 11 Light Cleric and a Level 1 Wild Magic Sorcerer, Currently wearing Scale Mail without proficiency so he has disadvantage on stealth. So what would damage be for a one handed Warhammer without proficiency?

As a cleric you have proficiency in medium armor so I would recommend swapping your scale mail for a breastplate. You would have the same AC but would no longer have disadvantage on your Stealth checks (scale mail causes this, breastplate does not). Using a warhammer one handed you would do 1d8 + your Str mod damage and could still use a shield for another +2 AC, using it two handed you would do 1d10 + Str mod damage but could not use the shield.
Keep in mind that you are not proficient in martial weapons as a light domain cleric so your to hit bonus is only going to be your Str modifier. Light clerics are generally more of a caster type than melee type. If you're looking for a more melee focused Cleric I'd recommend choosing a domain that has heavy armor proficiency (Death, Forge, Life, Nature, Order) and martial weapons (Tempest, Twilight UA, War).
Ditching the shield allows you to cast spells without warcaster too. Just use the hammer two handed, then when you want to cast, hold it with one hand while you do your S component of the spell. I'd second the advice to grab a breastplate and dump the scale. I also agree that light clerics aren't great on the front line (I'd argue that clerics in general are more effective from range, but 50,000 melee clerics will beat me to death) but it's not hateful. Really though, at that level, a light cleric swinging his hammer 1 time/round is really not using his action very well unless you picked up booming blade and greenflame blade from sorc. Even them it's still pretty meh imo.
Also, since you are not proficient with warhammers, I'd ditch it and grab a spear or quarterstaff. The damage is not much less, I'd rather have my prof bonus to hit than an extra die size.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

What race are you? if you are a dwarf you are proficient in war hammer which makes it a good weapon for you, otherwise you will be more effective with something like a quarterstaff or spear.
Just to clarify the first sentence, with a shield and one handed weapon as a cleric you can cast spells that only have a vocal component, and assuming your shield is a spell focus you can cast spells with a material component whether or not they have a somatic component, the only problem occurs is if you want to cast a spell with a somatic component but not a material component. In that case you would have to do something like your interaction with object action to sheath your sword (which would make you unable to use it for reaction attacks).
If you are looking at maximising the abilities of a cleric I do think it is best nearly all the time to build Wis as a main stat and use spells most of the time, particularly past the first few levels but it is probably too late to change that now unless your wis is already 18 and you can up it to 20 at level 12.
He said "without proficiency" so I have to assume he is not a dwarf.

as a gnome, you're going to do more damage hitting things with a staff or a spear than you will a warhammer, because you will hit more often.

You are unable to cast any spells at all while wearing armor that you do not have proficiency for. Never put a caster in armor you aren't proficient with.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
Light clerics are proficient in scale male, so he is proficient.

So does that negate disadvantage on stealth checks too? Being proficient in scale mail? Or no?

Scale gives disadvantage on Stealth checks regardless of proficiency with it.
I was thinking of Chain Mail (heavy)
