So like the title says there is gonna be a new campaign coming up that will be using a homebrew enhanced moon druid that its wildshape cr is equal to its level. Also at lvl 6 you can wild shape into a monstrosity of cr = to druid level divided by 2. This is also the case for any elemental at level 10 (druid level divided by 2). All other rules for wildshape still apply. My question is besides the obvious trex and ape and hulking giant crab what other creatures would be fantasitc to turn into?
I forgot about crag cat!! hell of a wicked stealth mod too, thanks!
Also sorry I wasnt clear earlier. What of the monstrosity, elemental, or beast types would you use if you could? our campaign will start @ lvl 9 so high level beasties are ok.
Wish i could get my DM to allow for monstrosities lol. When you get flight at level 8, Griffin is pretty awesome especially since you can be used as a war mount.
So things got changed a little bit to everything now druid level /2. It was also given the choice of elemental, monstrosity, or fey (this choice can't be changed later). all other rules of wildshape apply. I am thinking to still stick with the elemental though, less extra crazy stuff to work out like an umber hulk. The Blistercoil Weird looks like fun at this level.
If you are staying with Elementals, Invisible Stalker is the only really cool one, but it is VERY cool. Wildshape-long Greater Invisibility and Flight is pretty great.
To sway you to Monstrosities, Chimera and Medusa are Monstrosities, as are Yuan-Ti such as the Yuan-ti Nightmare Speaker, which basically is a mini-player-character in itself, with almost all of its abilities being rechargeable on a short rest.
Oh wow, that Invisible Stalker is amazing! once I hit lvl 12 that may be the new goto form. Thank you! for now I realized if I go mark of warding dwarf and grab the telepathic feat I can have mage armor active and get a higher AC in some forms and then precast armor of agathys and maybe fire shield for extra fun. The Yuan ti looks fun but I cant turn into anything that has the shapechange property ( This was my fault for not saying this earlier, and I'm sorry about that). I also can't do any spellcasting in the form due to Wildshape's restriction.
If you are going to 20, skip on the Elementals. They don’t have enough higher-level options to be worth having the Invisible Stalker. Go Monstrosity to make sure you have a bunch of (good) options throughout the leveling.

Oh wow, that's incredible.
The list of monstrosities alone is absurdly substantial. To give you an idea of what your GM is allowing, at level 20 you'll be able to turn into a Guardian Naga, which will mean it will take a wish spell to stop you from coming back to life if killed. This also calls into question the Wild Shape rules: the stock ones ban all spellcasting until level 18, at which point you can cast druid spells. You should clarify with your GM the RAI on Wild Shape interacting with Monstrosities and Elementals with spellcasting. You should also clarify how Wild Shape interacts with "variant" creatures - at level 22 (you said in another post you're going beyond level 20), can you turn into a variant Dao/Efreeti/Djinn/Marid and grant wishes?

The beyond 20 is probably capping at level 20 but going further for like boons and others stuff like that. I spoke with them and they seem to say I could go with just the spells I know as a druid for once I get to level 18 (since it appears no other base wildshape creatures can spellcast, they are wanting to stick with that).
What other options are fantastic then to choose Monstrosity over the elementals? Keeping in mind the limits. Also that Guardian Naga looks awesome.

Oh, I missed the followup post where you have to choose. The two CR 10 Monstrosities I know of are Guardian Nagas and Froghemoths, but Guardian Nagas have a lot of innate spellcasting, so I don't know how useful that'll be if your GM bans that. There are no CR 10 Elementals (the four genies are CR 11) I know of. The only CR 10 Fey I know of are the four seasonal Eladrin from Mordenkainen, 3 of whom have innate spellcasting.
I think you'll find there are just more Monstrosities that exist at every CR. Like, at 9, you've got one elemental - the Frost Salamander - but 2 Monstrosities (the Abominable Yeti and the Lonely Sorrowsworn). And no Fey I am aware of. I don't know how many outliers you'll find in the other two categories like the absolute nonsense that is the CR5 Fire Elemental, but Monstrosity just covers soooo many bases.
Bear in mind that if your GM enforces the limitation of Wild Shaping into things you've seen, Fey and Elementals are from specific Planes, so it's a lot easier to force the issue of seeing one than it is with Monstrosities. If you have to hunt these things down before you can use them, that might be a gamechanger.

Hey fair enough. Thank you so much =)

Monstrosity? Or beast?
I personally love Giant Spiders and Giant Crayfish with my normal Moon Druid. Both shapes are great in and out of combat.

Have fun. Your dm gave a big boost to a class that probably doesn’t need it.

take a level in monk to get unarmored defense... this will improve your AC while wild shaped

I gave this thought, but we will be going to level 20 and beyond so I'd rather stick with straight Moon Druid.
