Hello people! I am new to playing as a druid and I think I'm going to have ALOT of fun, but I find it awfully tedious to override all of my characters stats every time I use my wild shape ability. I was wondering if there was a way I could build presets for my sheet, so for example, every time I want to turn into a brown bear, my hp, AC, and character stats all automatically get adjusted from a click of a button. And if that's not possible, can any other druid players give me tips on how to make this process faster. I feel like I can't pay attention to what's happening during my campaign if I spend most my time before my next turn messing with my stats. I really like the organization from using this website and I hope there is a way to avoid third party usage, but that seems to be my only option. Thank you for reading!
Use the extras tab on your character sheet. You can add creatures as wild shapes when you "manage extras" and they will show the correct ability scores and proficiencies combining the PC stats and the animal stats.
Ditto. I set up extras with BOTH widshape options and summoning options. My druids summon a lot when possible to suck hits for the party and to deal extra damage/create confusion.
In extras you can also modify each creature block to show visually their important stats to make quick choices easier. I add in AC/HP/to hit bonus and anything else that is important.
It shows your wildshape options in one area, and summoning in another.
oh that really cool thank you! will definitely take advantage. Is there a way to track health with this method too? Or should I just manually write that down
I normally keep track of current hp for wild shapes on the token in my VTT (foundry in my case) but it turns out dndbeyond can track that as well. Current/max hp is tracked right above the monster stat block in the side bar that opens up when clicking a creature in your extras tab. Click on it to bring up a hp management menu.
As obvert mentioned, if you summon stuff it's a good idea to add creatures separately in each relevant category (summons, wild shapes, familiars, pets, etc). Also, if you make rolls using dndbeyond and have access to more than a couple of extras it can save time to have multiple browser tabs set up, all on different parts of your character sheet. I keep one browser tab on my actions tab, one with my familiar's stat block opened, one with my summoned creature stat block opened, and another with a pet stat block. In combat switching between the browser tabs is a bit quicker than having to switch from actions to extras in dndbeyond and then either type the name of the creature or search the list of creatures for whatever you're controlling.
Edit: Should probably note that I believe making rolls from creature stat blocks in extras is functionality added by the beyond20 app. Here's hoping it will keep working after WoTC takes over in a few weeks.
