I've been working on a Monk character that takes a couple of levels of Druid (Part of the backstory). And someone recommended a two level dip in Spore Druid for the Symbiotic Entity bonus damage (2d4 + 1d6) x2 and 2d4 for either the bonus attack or flurry of blows. Not bad.
But the feature takes an Action to start up, so I'm losing out on one round of combat. And it only lasts for as long as the temp hit points are around; since I'm only taking two levels of Druid, that's only 8 temp hp. Since this would be a front-line fighter, that may not even last the round it took to activate the feature.
So would it even be worth it? Maybe a different circle would have more synergy?
It's a tough call because of that setup round. The current rules are very unforgiving toward builds that aren't ready to go from round 1 since combats are so short.
But Symbiotic Entity lasts for 10 minutes, you might be able to precast it sometimes.
Don't! The Symbiotic Entity ability only lasts as long as the temp HP. With a "dip" into druid, it will be gone after you take 1-2 hits. And it takes one action to activate. The Halo of Spores reaction is Con save or no damage. It almost never hits. It's a trap. Maybe it works better, if you dip into Monk and go Spores as your main class. But, for a druid dip, Moon Druid has a better synergy with only a 2 level dip. Or, one level Ranger for Favored foe, or fighter for Unarmed Fighting style (if your DM allows it). Or just Fey touched for Hex, or even Gift of the Chromatic Dragon (con-free 1d4 extra damage per LR), are all better options.
Yeah, in this case if you're after the additional 1d6 damage recommendation would be ask your DM if they consider unarmed strikes as weapon attacks and if the answer is yes, you'll probably get just as much or more milage out of hunters mark from ranger.

A few questions:
What subclass Monk are you thinking?
What's the backstory?
Why are you listing the bonus attack as only 2d4, shouldn't the bonus attack also be at +1d6?
With those answers I can better answer your questions, right now my answer is a firm 'maybe' and another 'maybe' :-)
No, not worth it. Dip into ranger if you want to do a nature-based multiclass.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm going to go with 3 levels of Swarmkeeper instead.
