Hi guys. I am a beginner player and I have doubts about Wild Shape Druid. I read on the forums that is general assumption that a Druid, while in Wild Shape, can take Multiattack actions of the beasts in which he trasforms. But on the handbook I also read the 11th level privilege of the Beast Master Ranger, which states something like this:
"When you reach 11th level your companion can perform one additional Attack when he takes the Attack action OR take the Multiattack action if it has one"
This bring me to think that a Wild Shape Druid can not take Multiattack actions if he can not perform at least two attacks when he takes the Attack action
When you Wild Shape, "Your game statistics are replaced by the statistics of the beast", and and among the statistics that are replaced are your Actions. Whatever Actions you had are replaced by the Actions in the stat block of the beast you've Wild Shaped into. If Multiattack is amongst those, you have Multiattack.
That said, "You retain the benefit of any features from your class, race, or other source and can use them if the new form is physically capable of doing so." The "Extra Attack" that Rangers and other classes get at 5th level is not itself an Action, it is an ability that is applied when you take the Attack action. So if you were multiclassed in one of those classes and have Extra Attack, you can use Extra Attack to, e.g. Bite twice as a Black Bear. The Multiattack Action is not an Attack action though, so you could not Extra Attack with Multiattack in order to Bite twice and Claw once.
If the beast form the Druid wild shapes into has Multiattack the Druid can Multiattack. It really is that simple.
The reason the Beast Master Ranger has that 11th level feature you noticed is because their 3rd level feature Ranger's Companion specifically limits the ranger to only being able to command their breast companion to take the the Attack, Dash, Disengage, or Help actions. As brectangle explains Multiattack is its own action and it is described in the Monsters Manual. This is why the Beast Master Ranger needs that 11th level feature to add Multiattack back to the list of actions they can command their beast to do.
