Friend is going to do a one shot this weekend and we're running level 4 characters. Got the okay to try out the circle of spores druid. We roll for stats, so that will be done this weekend, so this is more of a character concept thread.
Race: Lizardfolk (willing to explore other options here, but would require a few adjustments later...) Class: Druid - Circle of Spores Concept: A druid traveling the world and exploring the wilderness of foreign lands and just generally learning about the world. Background: Far Traveler Summary of personality, etc: Plan to start and each of my days by finding a quiet place in wilderness and mediating to try and get closer to nature. My character will largely be vegetarian, but considers eating large insects a delicacy if they become available. Generally weary of strangers and dislike the worship of gods as I don't find it practical to talk to anything that rarely intervenes in the lives of mortals. Proud Lizardfolk warrior, and believe in the natural way of things, predators and prey, strong and weak. True Neutral
Mechanics: Really interested in trying this character out at level 4 because besides generally finding druids to be incredibly versatile, interested in trying this new sub-class as a gish. Idea for general damage dealing: Use a quarterstaff, have polearm mastery, have shillelagh. Use spore druid's symbiotic entity. Now I'm a spellcaster who can attack twice a turn at level 4 with my wisdom modifier bonus and an additional 1d6 poison damage per hit. Use a shield and with Lizardfolk's natural AC we're talking. With point buy I'm looking at 1d8+3 +1d6, 1d4 +3 1d6, 6 reaction damage a turn, and get 12 temp hit points. On top of that I can use shield, so my AC is sitting at about 17. Generally, our rolls are much stronger than point buy (4d6, reroll 1 &2's one time). Anyway, any ideas for improvement?
