We were having a conversation around the table last night about leveling up and Goodberrys and I was wondering what other druids thought about the idea of the healing strength of Goodberrys going up as the druid leveled up. Like from 1HP to 3 to 5HP and capping there or even the amount of Goodberrys created in a day going up. 1 HP & 10 total seems pretty useless for the most part. I get it as a way to quickly bring a pc back from death checks but it isn't really giving any healing.
It's up to your DM to allow it but in my game, Goodberry is not a healing spell. It creates berries that heal. No bonuses are given to the amount of healing from the berries. However, the idea of increasing the potency of the Goodberry by upcasting it IS a good idea. A Goodberry could be upcast every other level and could deliver an extra point of healing per level that it is upcast. A 3rd level Goodberry would heal 2 HP, 5th = 3 HP, 7th = 5 and 9th = 7 and it would cap there. Ideas around Goodberries are in numerous forums but I'd have to say the upcast is the best enhancement to Goodberry that I've seen without breaking the game.

DMs can choose not to follow RAW but that does make players bummed out that take the class features. It is after all just some healing that typically happens after the battle anyways.
It's already broken. My druids have often tried not to cast non-cantrip spells so they'd be able to use slots to cast goodberry at the end of the day. Upping goodberry values could just exacerbate this - but it might fit to say berries have time-limited additional potency if eaten in say 10 minutes.
I am starting to think more and more about homebrewing a thing where the goodberry is a crafted herbal thing and not a spell slot at all. Make it something to do with a skill roll for foraging and herbalism or something.

If it is going to be home brewed, I've often thought a good idea was to use the spell's description which says it provides enough sustenance to sustain a creature for one day.
So theoretically this fills someone up until a long rest. So let all the enhancements happen from other classes and moon sickle however limit it on stomach size to one per long rest/day.
Can even give those with high constitution the ability to eat more...so one berry plus more berries related to whatever your CON modifier is.

I kinda agree with one of my previous GMs on this who regarded this with caution. Despite having brewer's tool proficiency, my drug-crazed, tortle, circle of the stars druid couldn't craft this significantly faster than other items could be aquired in downtime.
It's already op as by far the most potent entry-level between combat healing spell. One casting can get up to ten people back into consciousness and get them ready to spend their hit dice to get more hp back over a short rest. For another caster to heal an average of just 9.5 hp they'd need a spell-casting modifier of +5.
If people want to create goodberries by crafting then, RAW, crafting rules suggest that significant time and resources typically need to be invested to make magical items.

Anyway. Thoughts?
Add Life Cleric to make Goodberry more potent....

Talking about homebrewing, lots of people have looked into ideas of making goodberry wine.
